the Solihull Energy Heat Network

Learn more about the benefits of living or working in a building connected to the Solihull Energy Heat Network.

How does the connection
process work?

1.

A member of the Solihull Energy team will arrange a meeting with you virtually or in-person, to discuss your energy needs.

2.

We’ll produce a bespoke outline design, comparison document, and commercial offer based on a desktop survey for you to consider.

3.

If you’re happy to proceed, our technical team will work with you to design a connection proposal that meets your requirements. We’ll draft and work with you to agree a Head of Terms.

4.

We’ll work with you to produce a detailed design and legal agreement (CSA).

5.

Once this is signed, we can begin construction and connect your building to the Solihull Energy network.

6.

We’ll conduct final checks and ensure you are satisfied before signing off the works.

Getting ready for
Solihull Energy

New buildings are connecting to the Solihull Energy heat network so that more customers in Solihull can enjoy the benefits of reliable, affordable, low-carbon heat and hot water.

If you live or work in a building that is soon to be connected to the network, then here’s everything that you need to know.

Initially, the energy network will supply council buildings in the town centre,
as well as nearby education campuses.

Future phases will extend the network to additional buildings in the area and link to planned commercial developments.

1.

Your existing heating system will be disconnected and made safe. If your property has electric storage heaters these will be removed and recycled.

2.

A new Heat Interface Unit (HIU), and our vThermae HIU, will be installed in your property. This will connect to the incoming district heating system and provide you with instant heat and hot water.

3.

Solihull Energy will install new radiators with thermostatic control and new internal pipework to connect everything up. Our vPro2 Smart Meter display will also be installed. This allows you to easily control your heating, monitor your heat usage, and top-up your pay-as-you-go credit account (if applicable).

4.

Once you have been connected to Solihull Energy District Heating Network, you must contact your electricity provider and ask them to switch you from an ‘Economy 7’ (if you are on one) to a ‘Standard’ tariff to avoid being overcharged for electricity. This is because ‘Economy 7’ tariffs charge a premium for any electricity used by your new heating system during the day.

Opportunities to expand

We have ambitious plans to expand the network, bringing the benefits of district heating to more properties. Get in touch today to discuss the opportunity of connecting to the Solihull Energy Network.
